MSU CVM Clinical Psychologist Pauline Prince offers a comprehensive service model for MSU CVM. This model includes:

  • Evidence-based learning and teaching
  • Collaborative decision making
  • Therapeutic intervention
  • Disability services
  • Professional consultation
  • Crisis prevention and intervention
  • Trauma response

A board-certified neuropsychologist with nearly 40 years of experience working with students, Dr. Prince is committed to meeting the clinical and learning needs of MSU CVM students, faculty and staff.  She specializes in providing therapeutic counseling services to those who have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and can help them develop strategies to meet their individual needs to manage academics, as well as life stressors. In her work with students and school faculty and staff, Dr. Prince has served on trauma teams and participated in crisis response after student death from suicide, vehicle accidents, and other forms of trauma.  She has also coordinated resources and staff to effectively respond to traumatic events.  In addition, Dr. Prince has experience in working with students who self-harm, experience panic attacks, and develop health-related issues due to chronic stress.

For the past 40 years, Dr. Prince has grown her expertise in the evaluation of complex diagnostic cases.  She understands the neuropsychological underpinnings of disabilities, functional implications for learning, social/emotional functioning, skill demonstration, and activities of daily living.  In her work with students, families, and school staff, Dr. Prince has assisted in the development of academic success plans for educational disabilities, such as learning disabilities, ADHD, emotional conditions (to include anxiety and depression), and for Return to Learn protocols after a concussion.  Concussion management is a complicated process, but quite critical to allow students to return to class, sport, and life.

Dr. Prince has worked with elite athletes, their parents, and coaches for over 30 years. She has a keen eye for details and can teach a wide variety of strategies to correct “bad habits,” which will allow for the implementation of self-initiated, game-time strategies for effective, consistent performance. Dr. Prince enjoys working with athletes to assist them in growing their skills (athletic, academic, and social/emotional) so that they can compete at the highest levels. Her neuropsychological evaluation/diagnostic skills have been employed by parents, coaches, teachers, and athletes to assist in the understanding of talented athletes with learning disabilities, ADHD, and/or the persistent effects of concussions. Neuropsychological evaluations produce real-time, effective strategies for the classroom and for athletic performances.  This experience transferred easily to helping students, faculty, and staff at MSU CVM as they manage performance anxiety in the growth, development, and demonstration of their medical skills.

Dr. Prince understands the brain-behavior relationship; this knowledge allows her to assist the students that she serves, as well as school staff, to maximize the potential of students and schools.  Dr. Prince can explain the data, the functional impact, and the strategies in a manner that is immediately useful to all parties involved.  She is quite comfortable with staff training and public speaking.
